I have 1 upright bass. It is 100 year old bass that sounds awesome. A previous repair covers the label. It is an orchestral/solo bass with no extension. I have a pick-up, but no transducer. The string height is low and has bridge adjusters. It is maintained by Bob Beerman, of The Bass Violin Shop in Greensboro, NC. |

I've played a lot of rented/borrowed basses around the world, but I rarely encounter a bass that is set-up to my liking. Doug's Engel is that rare exception and made my one-week tour so much more enjoyable as a result. It sounds and plays better than a lot of vintage Kays I've played. Doug was most accomodating and very easy to deal with.

This bass is available for rent anywhere inside or outside of North Carolina. It is a gorgeous 3/4 size 1939 Juzek that was completely restored in 2009. It has a huge sound accompanied by amazing clarity. It is outfitted with an adjustable bridge, comes with a French bow, and is well suited for orchestral or jazz performance. I keep Pirastro Obligato strings on it, which again, work great for arco and pizzicato performances. |

I am looking to rent a bass for my son who is starting the Beginning Strings class at his Middle School. We now live in Durham but we lived in Greensboro for 8 years, I even graduated from UNCG! I also know Carla LeFevre in the Music Dept. there, she used to be my neighbor. Could you let me know how much you are renting your bass for? We would take good care of it! My name is Karen Hofmann and you can reach me at 919-768-8176 or jkhofmann@msn.com. Thank you!
